Back To School Letter

Welcome to the 2016-17 School Year

This year your child is enrolled in Algebra 1B, the second course in the math sequence. Your child will be taking the Pennsylvania Algebra 1 Keystone Exam in May.

The main focus of this school year will be to prepare your child for this exam. They are required to pass it. If they do not they will be placed in an Algebra Keystone remediation course next year.

For your child to be successful they should have their own calculator, which they will be taught how to use properly through out this school year. I suggest the TI 30. This calculator allows them to see what they entered and correct if necessary.

Through out the course of the year we will also be working on a program called Aleks. It is a web-based program that will help to fill in the blanks if your child is weak in an area along with keeping the information fresh in their minds. This program will be tailored to your child’s needs. This will also be a portion of your child’s grade each marking period. They will have class time to work on this program, however if your child is absent they will need to use their time to work on it. It can be accessed from any computer device that has internet access at www.Aleks.com.

When your child is absent, they are expected to check the absent notebook and collect the items they missed and complete them on their time. They are responsible for turning in all missing work.

Late work is accepted for full credit and should be completed as soon as possible so that he/she doesn’t fall further behind. The overall grade is calculated based on points each marking period. There is a midterm and final exam.

Should your child full below a 64%, I will be contacting you and letting you know about this. Together we will help to make your child have a successful year in math.

Please encourage your child to see me if they are struggling and need extra help. I am not a mind reader. If you should need to contact me at anytime throughout the year feel free to do so at [email protected] or at 717.246.1611 ext 2104. I look forward to a great year!

Sincerely,
