Amy Hess - Art and FACS Instructor

Hello! My name is Mrs. Amy Hess, and I’m one of the Art and Family & Consumer Sciences (FACS) instructors at Red Lion Area Senior High School.

My Educational Background

My career path has given me the opportunity to combine my background in the creative arts and fashion industry with my passion for education.

I am a graduate of Shippensburg University and the Fashion Institute of Technology, where I developed the foundation for my career in fashion and apparel design. After spending more than 30 years working in the apparel industry, including many years designing dance and gymnastics apparel, I decided to take my experience from the design studio into the classroom.

I returned to school at Millersville University during Covid, where I earned my teaching degree and began a new chapter as an educator.

My Teaching Career

I currently teach students in grades 9–12 at Red Lion Area Senior High School. One of the things I enjoy most about teaching at the high school level is building connections with my students while helping them discover their own creativity, interests, and abilities.

I feel very fortunate to teach subjects that connect so closely to my professional background while also giving me opportunities to explore new art forms alongside my students.

After spending decades as a designer, I’ve discovered that teaching high school students is a pretty great second career. My students enjoy making personal connections, they keep me on my toes, and—most importantly—they usually understand my Corky humor!
