Biography

Hello!  My name is Mrs. Amy Handy Rohrbaugh, but I go by Mrs. Handy at school.  :)  

After graduating from Dover Area High School in 1995, I began my college endeavors at Penn State York as a biology major, and then transferred to York College where I earned a B.S. degree with a biology major and a chemistry minor in 1999.  I worked as a chemist for eight years before I decided to get certified to teach.  I returned to York College and earned my teaching certification in 2008, which allowed me to begin teaching at Red Lion in the 2008-2009 school year.  I went on to earn my Master's Degree in Teaching and Curriculum from Penn State in 2014 where I was awarded Outstanding Graduate Student in Teaching and Curriculum and had the privilege of speaking at Penn State York's graduation ceremonies.  I have continued to take courses through the University of Phoenix and Fresno Pacific University to meet my continuing education requirements over the years.    

 

During my time at Red Lion, I have taught General Science, Science & Technology, Comprehensive Chemistry, Biology, and my favorite - Zoology!  I have always loved learning about animals and I truly enjoy teaching my students about them, as well.

 

I live in the Red Lion school district with my amazing husband.  Both my son and my daughter graduated from Red Lion.  When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband working on projects around the house and gardening.  :)  I also love visiting zoos and aquariums, and scrapbooking with friends.
