Dear Red Lion families,
Protecting the safety and security of our students and staff is something we take seriously in the Red Lion Area School District. In support of this, the District has adopted the response protocol known as A.L.I.C.E. A.L.I.C.E. is a non-sequential acronym that stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. This proactive response to a violent intruder enhances the traditional lockdown by giving individuals the ability to make choices that will increase their chances of survival. Eighteen staff members and the School Resource Officer (SRO) have completed instructor-level training where they were taught the concepts of A.L.I.C.E. and participated in real-life scenario drills. Additionally, all staff who are employed by the Red Lion Area School District have completed an online certification course through the ALICE Training Institute.
On November 14, 2017, all buildings in the Red Lion Area School District will be conducting a school security drill utilizing the Alert, Lockdown, and Inform strategies. Students will see two short videos, followed by practicing the Alert, Lockdown, and Inform parts of A.L.I.C.E. They will be supported by their classroom teacher, building principal, and the A.L.I.C.E. trainer(s) located in their building. The drill will be calm and student-friendly.

This letter is to inform you of the drill that we are conducting on November 14, 2017. There is no reason to be alarmed or concerned. In the event of an actual emergency, we would use all of the communication tools and law enforcement resources available to the Red Lion Area School District. Our hope is that we never have to use these skills, but again, protecting the safety of our students and staff is our main concern.
Thank you for your understanding and anticipated cooperation.
